Tierra Miguel Farm invites you to be a Farmer For A Day in our new Student Outdoor Laboratory (SOL) for a hands-on learning experience. TMF has been offering on-site educational programs since the farm’s founding in 2000 and have reached more than 30,000 students over that time.

The mission of the Farmer For A Day program is to inform and educate K-12 students about the value of local, sustainable agricultural practices and to demonstrate these practices on an 84-acre working produce farm. Through experiential learning techniques and direct participation in farm activities we aim to strengthen the connection between K-12 children and the source of their food. Our programs are offered year-round and to all schools throughout Southern California.

Some of the lessons offered include:

  • Soil & Your Health: Get dirty learning about soil
  • Why Food Matters: The cultural history of our food
  • Seed to Table: Follow the life cycle of a plant
  • Worms & Vermiculture: Turning trash to treasure
  • Wild Farm Animals: The role of wild animals on the farm
  • Beneficial Pests & Weeds: Helpful insects and plants
